INGREDIENTS USED IN GREEN or PURPLE SMOOTHIES – JULY 2016

 Introduction -

Having used a wide variety of home-made salads since March this year, I noticed the various green and purple powders available at health food stores and wondered how to incorporate these efficiently to boost my nutritional choices. The results were pleasing and this basically came about by the desire to change my food plan to 75% raw foods. Substantial weight loss followed naturally.

My current food plan is a Smoothie each day for breakfast, a large fruit and vegetable salad with a serve of Essential Fatty Acids (EFA’S) such as tinned herring or sardine for lunch, and a hearty homemade soup with 3 rice crackers or ½ piece of Naan bread for dinner.

POWER FOODS FOR SMOOTHIES

Any combination can be used however two from each group is recommended.

Powders - Açai Powder, Beetroot Powder, Spirulina Powder, Organic Green Tea Max Powder, Matcha Green Tea Powder, Chlorella Powder, Wheat Grass Powder and Barley Grass Powder.

Seeds - Psyllium husk, black sesame, Chia, Linseeds, Sunflower and Pumpkin seeds

Other - Turmeric powder, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, desiccated coconut, parley and mint flakes

Nuts and seeds - Ground Brazil nuts, almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts, pumpkin and sunflower seeds. I use a small coffee grinder specifically for this purpose.

Other - Freshly ground ginger or garlic. I use the 1 kg tub straight out of the fridge at Spice Bazaar and these are sometimes available at supermarkets and some health food stores.
